A few different nations, for example, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, and Iran joined the bargain during the time 1955. The agreement depended on the shared security and safeguard commitments, with the arrangement that expressed that countries would not meddle in inward issues of one another. Regardless of the way that the agreement was bound to incorporate a few other Arab states, particularly the countries of the Arab League, none of different nations of the area would join the partnership. 2. The point of the agreement was to contain the spread of socialism in the locale and check Soviet impact here. In spite of the way that the settlement didn't expressly state it, it was planned in light of this point. The agreement comprised of nine articles; the main article of the settlement specified collaboration between the states in different barrier measures. The subsequent article expressed that these measures should become usable once the legislatures of the countries individuals from the bargain had conceded to the moves that must be made. 3 In this regard Baghdad arrangement was less unequivocal than the arrangements of the settlement of NATO which specified that an assault on any individual from the bargain should considered as an assault on every one of them. Despite authoritatively broadcasted normal goals of the individuals from the collusion to battle socialisms it was clear right from the beginning that a large portion of the countries had differences on a few significant territorial issues, for example, Middle East procedure. All of the TOEFL Changes in 2019-2020 (Updated)

All of the TOEFL Changes in 2019-2020 (Updated) TOEFL Changes in 2019-2020 (Updated February 22, 2020)The TOEFL changed on August 1, 2019. Major changes to the reading, listening and speaking sections began on that day. Since then, ETS has announced a series of smaller changes (shorter wait times between tests, instant scoring, etc). Most of these changes have been well-publicized, but some of them are secret changes. Heres what you need to note.Reading Section ChangesYou will still getthree or four passages to read.If you get four passages, one of them will be an experimental passage that is not graded. Each reading passage will have 9 or 10 questions, instead of 12 to 14 questions. You will be given54 minutes (three passages) or 74 minutes (four passages) to finish the reading section. This means you will have about 18 minutes per passage and105 seconds per question(instead of 90 seconds like on the old test). Note that you may be required to achieve increased accuracy, so it is not safe to say that this change makes the reading s ection easier. If the total number of questions for a passage is9, that means a fill in a table question will appear as the last question. According to ETS, each passage will have exactly 10 questions every time, but this is incorrect information. The articles are the same length and difficulty level as before.Thesame typesof questions are used. Note that fill in a table and pronounreference questions havereturned to the test. Expect to get them.Unofficial reading scores are now given at the test center as soon as you finish the test.Listening Section ChangesYou will listen totwo or three sets of listening materials. Each set will consist of either one conversation and two lectures (long set), or one conversation and one lecture (short set). The long set has 17 questions and you will be given 10 minutes to solve them. The short set has 11 questions and you will be given 6.5 minutes to solve them. Note that the clock does not run while you are listening. This means you have about 35 sec ondsto solve each question, which is the same as on the old test. Some students have been given 7 minutes to solve the short set. The reason for this is unknown. If you are given three sets, the third will be an additional short set. In this case one of your lectures and one of your conversations will not be graded. These experimental passages could come from any of the sets.Notethat the length of the passages is unchanged, and the difficulty level is unchanged. All of the same question types are being used.Unofficial listening scores are now given at the test center as soon as you finish the test.Speaking Section ChangesSpeaking Question1(personal preference) andSpeaking Question 5 (campus situation) have been removed from the test. The remaining questions are the same as before. Note, however, that multiple choice and advantages/disadvantages questions are not being used in the new question one.Your score is now determined byone human raterand the SpeechRater software. This is call ed Enhanced Speaking Scoring by ETS. The SpeechRater software is new. Previously, students were graded only by human raters.OverallIt now takes about three hours to finish the TOEFL, instead of 3.5 hours (not counting administrative stuff and your break). The test is still scored out of 120 points, and each section still has equal weight.TOEFL Scoring ChangesMyBest ScoresYourTOEFL score report now contains asection referred to as MyBest Scores. This section combines the best result from each section of the test you have gotten over all of your attempts over the past two years. For example, if you take the test multiple times it will combine the best individual writing, speaking, reading and listening scores you achieved on all of the attempts. Note that some schools may not accept these scores and will continue to only accept single test scores. So far, most schools are not accepting these scores, but you can see my (incomplete) list of schools that accept them over here.Less Specifi c Score ReportsIn the past, students received overall speaking and writing scores, as well as specific level assessments (limited, weak, fair, good) for each of their writing tasks and for pairs of their speaking tasks. This indicated which parts of the test they did well on, and which parts they did poorly on. Those levels have now been removed from the score reports. Students onlyget overall scores now.Faster Score Reports and Score ReviewsIt now takes just six days to get your score (it used to take ten days). It now takes just three days to get a score review. Note that the SpeechRater is not used when a score review is requested.TOEFL Registration ChangesStudents can now take the test once per week. Previously they could only take the test once every two weeks. It is now possible to register for the test justtwo days before it is given.New Official TOEFL Test Prep ResourcesETS has suggested that a new version of the Official Guide to the TOEFL will be published in June, 2020. Th is is not official, however.ETS now provides a new free sample test which uses modified versions of the old TOEFL Quick Prep sets. They have also provided some new question PDFs which you canread about on my blog.OlderTOEFLTrends 2018 and 2019To quickly summarize, there are sixmain trends weve noticed in 2018 and 2019 that are separate from the announced changes described above:Independent writing question prompts are getting longer. They are sometimes as long as six sentences!A warning to not used memorized examples is sometimes displayed at the end of the independent writing question. In multiple-choice independent writing questions, students are sometimes told they can choose more than one option.Independent speaking question promptsare getting longer. It is now possible to get 25 points in the speaking section. Previously this was impossible.Check Out Our Video Series on the ChangesSign up for express essay evaluation today!Submit your practice TOEFL essays for evaluation by the author of this website. The Blank Slate The Modern Denial Of Human Nature Essay

The concept of nature vs nurture is easily one of the oldest and most controversial arguments of modern times. Harvard psychology professor Steven Pinker is notably known in the world of psychology and the social sciences for his book â€Å"The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature.† In his book, Pinker addresses this exact argument and reasons that human behavior is mostly and at its roots is formed by evolutionary psychological adaptations. In 2003, Steven Pinker gave a Ted Talk regarding his book and the idea that human behavior is predisposed, rather than formed by socialization, interactions between people and the exposure to culture. Pinker discusses the reasoning behind his stance on nature over nurture using five key discussion points, these points being, human universals, neurology and DNA, political reasoning, the arts and parenting. During his Ted Talk, Pinker begins by stating that there are human universals, concepts, behaviors and traits that are carried and found, with many similarities, throughout every human civilization, he then explains that a common example of this is with twins separated at birth, and can be proven through neurological studies. Another concept that Pinker address to further solidify his stance is the idea that the argument that humans are ‘blank slates’ and human behavior is developed through nurture rather than nature is the political reasoning behind the benefits of everyone being ‘blank slates’. Two critical points he made howeverShow MoreRelatedThe Power of Nature and Nurture Essay1562 Words   |  7 Pagesdebate on nature versus nurture has been a mystery for years, constantly begging the question of whether human behavior, ideas, and feelings are innate or learned over time. The Legal Status Of Prostitution - 1460 Words

Research Design: Prior to the discussion of the methodology employed in this research, a hypothesis of answer for this research question ‘Can people attitudes on the legal status of prostitution be shaped by media representation?’ will be allocated. The hypothesis position to this question is posited as ‘an individual with less knowledge on the subject (i.e. prostitution and its legality issues) is more probable to affect by media on his or her attitude towards prostitution’. This research intends to adopt an experimental design because it deemed as an ideal research method to measure individual attitude change in regards to the effects made by the media on prostitution as a legal or formal occupation. As Imai, Tingley and Yamamoto†¦show more content†¦According to Bechhofer and Paterson (2000), experimental design is commonly found in psychology, economics, medical and some of the policy research, but it is the least common research design found in sociology. Despite of age, gender, class and their degree, thirty university students will be randomly selected for a semi-structured interview. The interview begins by asking students to rank how positive or how negative they are in viewing prostitution as a legal or formal occupation, based on a Likert scale. This scale designed as a 5-items (1 = Strongly Agree, 2 = Agree, 3 = Neutral, 4 = Disagree, and 5 = Strongly Disagree), which based on the participants’ self-report on indicating their beliefs and attitudes towards prostitution. An example of the question in the scale will be similar to ‘I think entering into prostitution is a free choice and prostitution should be seen as a formal job’. By doing this at the

Thesus vs Achilles Free Essays

Dumbledore said, â€Å"It is the choices†¦ that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities. † This theory applies to everyone. Through the choices and actions of Theseus and Achilles, we learn a lot about their characters. We will write a custom essay sample on Thesus vs Achilles or any similar topic only for you Order Now We find Achilles to be motivated by rage and pride, with ambitions of glory and vengeance. Theseus, on the other hand, seems to be motivated by others’ needs, and aspires to do right by those who he should help. Theseus also likes to challenge expectations and overcome the â€Å"impossible†. Theseus begins his saga with a journey to Athens. He chooses the difficult and dangerous land route, as opposed to the sea route, because he wants the challenge. On his way, he completes six tasks that make him a great hero. He kills robbers and murderers, helping innocent potential victims, delivering justice, and making a name for himself. Once he arrives in Athens, he kills some of the people who plan to attack him. Even though they are not innocent and pose a threat to him, he doesn’t kill about half of them, including his uncle Pallas. This shows his solid reasoning. When Theseus captured the bull of Marathon, he met a normal, old lady, and paid her significant respects in her death. Theseus was seen as a â€Å"champion of the oppressed. † For example, he gave Oedipus a place to live after he chose exile. Achilles’ ambitions and motivations had little in common with Theseus’. He was driven by anger, the need for vengeance, bloodlust, and excessive pride. He strived for eternal glory. Achilles played a huge role in the Trojan War, a situation that aligned perfectly with his personality. He showed no humility in slaying others. He mutilated Hector’s body. He refused to accept Agammemnon’s great gifts out of his hubris. In the end, his need for vengeance overcame even his dispute with Agammemnon, and his sole purpose was to destroy Hector, afterward mutilating his body. He was miserable, but finally learned compassion. Achilles and Theseus were very different heroes. Their choices and actions clearly outline their motivations and ambitions for us. Theseus is motivated by the excitement of challenges, and the opportunity to help others. His ambitions are greatness, but, more importantly, justice and aiding those in need. Achilles’ motivations are negative and his ambitions shallow. However, at the end of his life, we see a positive change in his personality. How to cite Thesus vs Achilles, Papers

As a matter of fact, the contemporary architectural skills heavily borrowed from the ideals of postmodernism When architectural ‘reference, ornament and wit’ returned, postmodernism was fast put into place and adopted across the world as a globally accepted system (Venturi, 1977). Architecture has a vivid display of postmodernism movement. Besides, it came into being after modern architecture was perceived to have failed. The key personalities behind this mo vement were L. I Kahn and Robert Venturi. The latter shed a lot of light on architectural designs through his writings. The architectural freedom through the autonomy of discourse was largely heralded by Aldo Rossi. The entire discourse began before the onset of 1950s when several articles had already been written by Rossi (Kaminer 2011, p.88). It is vital to mention that the idea behind architectural autonomy was brought about by the desire for freedom. Most of the radical architectural groups and individuals such as Aldo Rossi fought for freedom in constructing buildings. However, the entire pursuit for freedom was not merely embedded on architecture since several rights groups also emerged during this era demanding for liberty both socially and politically.Advertising Looking for report on architecture? Campus Life Problem

Campus Life Problem The essential factor in communicative interaction is effective communication. However, many people fall short of this requirement and posses ineffective communication skills characterized by superiority complex, insensitivity, and an all knowing attitude.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Campus Life Problem specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Supportive communication is the foundation of effective communication. Thus, this assessment essay analyses obstacles to supportive communication and recommendations on improving supportive communication. Supportive communication should be effective in preserving the relationship between parties involved while effectively addressing a predicament (Heath and Bryant 289). However, this is not the case in the relationship between Jill and her parents. The first communicative obstacle in this scenario is the incongruence approach Jill’s parent gives the problem. Though they seem supportive, this is not the case. They have a formed opinion of what is right for their daughter and are insensitive of her feelings. Jill’s mother asserts, â€Å"Political science? You never make money doing that. We only want the best for you†. Disregarding Jill’s opinion on career choice is likely to strain this relationship. The father makes an intimidating evaluative statement about monetary sacrifices which invokes a defensiveness feeling, prompting Jill to remind them of her life. In self defense, she says â€Å"I have to live my life, not yours!† Instead of being problem oriented, the parents personalize their comments prompting Jill to despise their suggestions (Whetten and Cameron 109). The mother asserts, â€Å"We’ve made so many sacrifices†¦ give us respect in return.†Besides, the father makes invalidating statement which makes Jill’s choice unimportant. He asserts, â€Å"We do understand what’s best for you†¦we want you to be a doctor†. Such a statement lowers confidence and worthiness and leaves the person feeling impervious, inferior and indifferent especially when supposed supportive party is fixed minded and unwilling to accept an alternative (Heath and Bryant 289).Advertising Looking for assessment on communication strategies? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Jill’s parents are rigid and ignorant of advising response from her. Generally, when there is ineffectiveness in supportive communication, defensiveness is unavoidable especially when a party feels attacked. An effective supportive communication lies n the pillars of congruency, descriptivism, validation, flexibility, respect, and sensitivity (Heath and Bryant 289). Jill’s parents should be problem oriented and accept her choice after creating a free environment for discussion. During this interactive forum, utmost congruency from b oth parties should characterize the decisions. Through expressing true feelings, communication congruence is likely to facilitate cordial relationship among the trio (Whetten and Cameron 109). Moreover, it is important for the trio to acknowledge the fact that they are a family. In making statements, the parents should adopt descriptive speech about range of solutions to the presumably sticky situation which has been inactive for period of time. The trio should be objective when expressing their feelings and focus on reaction and behavior, and not personality. Before making a statement, Jill’s parents should put into consideration the consequences of emotionally triggered utterances. Therefore, it is essential for the parents to validate their statements to win back Jill’s confidence and a sense of self worth. When practicing supportive communication, the communicator should be flexible enough to accommodate alternative solutions to a problem. This motivates the third party to positively participate and contribute an input (Whetten and Cameron 109). After all, supportive communication is a two way channel in which respectful communication travels. Rather than assuming the feeling of superiority, Jill’s parents should learn to exercise flexibility before making absolute resolutions to divert any indifference feeling which may overwhelm their daughter.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Campus Life Problem specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Jill should internalize conjunctive communication characterized by free flow of information among the trio. Despite her opinion of the impervious parents, Jill ought to have made owned statements when she discovered her career. Conclusively, supportive communication is effective when the third party’s assumes the role of being a supportive listener. However, applying these attributes depends on the communicative skills of an indivi dual. It is fair to identify own inaccuracies in communicating. When these attributes are effectively used, counseling and coaching, which relies on supportive communication, may carry positive feedback and boost life skills. Whetten, David Allred and Kim S. Writing to Friends and Family in French

Writing to Friends and Family in French Writing letters in French can be somewhat tricky because they require particular opening and closing conventions. Following some basic rules of French etiquette and grammar will help you find the correct expressions to use when writing to family, friends, or acquaintances. Following Conventions For personal correspondence, there are two important conventions in French letters: greetings and closings. The expressions you use depend on your relationship with the person you are writing to, particularly whether you know her personally. Also, consider whether to use  tu  or  vous- tu  is the familiar you,  while vous  is the formal greeting for you in French. Remember that these  French expressions do not always translate well into English. These are usable equivalents, rather than literal translations. Following are possible greetings and closings you can use, depending on whether you know the person. Greetings You can use these greetings either by themselves or with the salutation followed by the persons name. The greeting in French is listed on the left, while the English translation is on the right. French greetings can be particularly tricky. For example, the French title  Mademoiselle- literally my young lady- has long been used to distinguish between women, whether due to their age or marital status. Shopkeepers and bank clerks always greet female customers with a  polite  Bonjour, Mademoiselle  or  Bonjour, Madame. But in a letter, you have to assess  the womans age in order to choose the correct term, and that can prove challenging. To help you craft your closing correctly, the following chart uses the same conventions as the previous one: The closing is listed in French on the left, while the translation is on the right. To an Acquaintance Je vous envoie mes bien amicales penses Best wishes Recevez, je vous prie, mes meilleures amitis Yours sincerely Je vous adresse mon trs amical souvenir Kindest regards   To a FriendCordialement ( vous)Sincerely (yours)Votre ami dà ©vouà ©(e)Your devoted friendChaleureusementWith warm regardsBien  amicalementIn friendshipAmitià ©sBest wishes, Your friendBien des choses tousBest wishes to allBien vous, Bien toiBest wishes bientà ´t!See you soon!Je tembrasseLove / With loveBons  baisersLots of loveBises!Hugs and kissesGrosses bises!Lots of hugs and kisses Considerations These latter expressions- such as Bons  baisers  (Lots of love) and Bises! Iran and Nuclear Power Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Iran and Nuclear Power - Essay Example Though the stockpiling of such weapons has been justified by many countries, notably the U.S., as being a deterrent for war, the dangers associated with the use of nuclear weaponry has been loudly trumpeted by politicians, scientists, scholars and the majority of the world’s citizens alike. In addition to the previously mentioned five countries considered ‘nuclear weapons states,’ and those that have tested or are suspected of possessing nuclear weapons, other countries including the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus and South Africa have had nuclear capability but have since disarmed. Other countries including Argentina, Brazil, Iraq, Algeria and Libya have pursued a nuclear program in the past. Israel will confirm of deny that they have nuclear weapons capabilities (Reuters, 2005) The latest countries to pursue nuclear weapons capability is North Korea and Iran. Though North Korea signed the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty in 1985, it pulled out of the treaty in 2003. In October of 2006, North Korea announced it had successfully tested a nuclear weapon at an underground site near the country’s east coast. This sent political and diplomatic shockwaves around the world though the test itself was deemed rather unspectacular. Iran announced in April of la st year that it had the ability to enrich uranium which is an essential phase in the making of a nuclear weapon. However, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has steadfastly claimed that Iran only plans to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and intends to continue enrichment on a much larger scale. Following this announcement, the UN Security Council has put forth a resolution which, in effect, insists that Iran must immediately discontinue any and all enrichment activities (â€Å"The Nuclear Club†, 2006). Some suggest that Iran is not escalating the fanatical rhetoric or aggressive actions because it has

Distance To Galaxy Using Supernova Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Distance To Galaxy Using Supernova - Essay Example Type Ia supernova have proven to be excellent distance indicators when well treated. Although they have virtues that are linked to standard candle, they are not standard candle. Combined with the high luminosity of objects which make them detectable out of redshift near 1, they can be used to measure cosmological distances and provide determination of acceleration of the universe. The assumption that is made is that supernova expands in a spherical symmetric manner. It is unlikely that supernova Ia will provide genuine and detailed results of the peculiar velocity field just because it rarely occurred. The astronomers realized that it was possible to measure apparent magnitude of supernova knowing what its absolute magnitude was. The measured distance was to be used to calculate the distance modulus. 1 square CCD array was used in taking the sample images for later analysis. The images were used to measure properties of the supernova (SN) host galaxies, such as total stellar mass, star formation rate or host galaxy redshift. Finally the apparent brightness and luminosity were combined with the aim of finding distance .During every check-up for the supernova, the value for flux and epoch of the i band maximum,f1 and tpeak was estimated .The flux value of f g, fr and fz for the same epoch was estimated The SNLS result that was released for the first time consisted of photometry and red shift of 40 supernova 1.The result were having griz light curves with photometry covering the epoch of the maximum flux in the i band. The coefficients ci was derived using 20 SNe Ia and later confirmed by another 20SNe Ia.The bias corrected mean and standard deviation of ci computed using the jack-knife technique and the result provided as given below The results obtained for the values of (Zphot -Zspec)/( Zphot +Zspec ) was plotted against the values of Z spec on a graph . This was done for 20 SN Ia and 40 SN Ia. The above calculated value fro

This will reduce the total dependency in the automotive industry and the immediate fluctuation and trends in the automobile will not affect the company badly.(http://www.fundinguniverse.com/company-histories/Continental-AG-Company-History.html) There are some important components for the strategy of this company. They are giving the prime importance to safety due to the law requirements and demand by the drivers. The safety division of the company is aimed at increasing the road security and adopted this as one of the important strategy of the company. Human Resource Management: It includes all the activities which is aimed at the proper utilization of the human resources available for the organization 3. Infrastructure: It includes the various departments which is required for the smooth functioning of the organization. The infrastructure include departments such as finance, planning, public relations, legal affairs, general management etc.(http://www.ifm.eng.cam.ac.uk/dstools/paradigm/valuch.html) Technical innovation is one of the methods achieved by company to bring down the total cost of the company. Mexican Cuisine

Mexican Cuisine Mexican cuisine is a style of food that originates in Mexico. It is known for its varied flavors, colorful decoration, and variety of spices and ingredients, many of which are native to the country. What makes a meal distinctly Mexican, of course, are the lively seasonings. Not all Mexican recipes are fiery, though; while renowned for their heat, many subtle and intriguing spice combinations are also found in Mexican fare. The staples of Mexican cuisine are typically corn and beans. Corn, traditionally Mexico's staple grain, is eaten fresh, on the cob, and as a component of a number of dishes. Most corn, however, is used to make masa, a dough for tamales, tortillas, gorditas, and many other corn-based foods. Squash and peppers also play important roles in Mexican cuisine. The most important and frequently used herbs and spices in Mexican cuisine are chilli powder, oregano, cilantro, epazote, cinnamon, and cocoa. Chipotle, a smoke-dried jalapeno chilli, is also common in Mexican cuisine. Many Mexican dishes also contain garlic and onions. Next to corn, rice is the most common grain in Mexican cuisine. Mexican food varies by region, because of local climate and geography and ethnic differences among the indigenous inhabitants and because these different populations were influenced by the Spaniards in varying degrees. The north of Mexico is known for its beef, goat and ostrich production and meat dishes, in particular the well-known arrachera cut. Central Mexico's cuisine is largely influenced by the rest of the country, but has unique and tasty dishes such as barbacoa, pozole, menudo and carnitas. Southeastern Mexico, on the other hand, is known for its spicy vegetable and chicken-based dishes. The cuisine of Southeastern Mexico has a considerable Caribbean influence due to its location. Seafood is commonly prepared in states that border the Pacific Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico, the latter having a famous reputation for its fish dishes. In Pueblos or villages, there are also more exotic dishes, cooked in the Aztec or Mayan with ingredients ranging from iguana to rattlesnake, deer, spider monkey, chapulines, ant eggs, and other kinds of insects.
